The Managing Director of Carrak Consulting, Kathy Hicks, is delighted to have become an Associate of Camborne School of Mines (CSM) in recognition of on-going links with the interdisciplinary mining and geoscience department of the University of Exeter.

Carrak Consulting has hosted undergraduate work placements and contributed to research projects led by CSM, including Deep Digital Cornwall. The company has worked with CSM staff on geo-environmental remote sensing projects funded by Satellite Applications Catapult and secured funding for collaborative research from Aerospace Cornwall and the European Space Agency.

Kathy, a CSM graduate (2002), assumed the role of Research Fellow on an EU funded mining project and has chaired industry stakeholder workshops for CSM. As a Director of the Cornish Chamber of Mines and Minerals, Kathy helped co-found the Cornwall Mining Alliance cluster with CSM and has supported recent funding applications by the University, including the Shared Prosperity Geo-Resources sector strengthening call, a UKRI funded Centre of Intelligence for Critical Minerals and a circular economy mine waste project with the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council.

As an Associate of Camborne School of Mines, Carrak Consulting has access to contemporary research facilities and expertise. The company looks forward to continued collaboration with the historic mining school in 2024.
